LAURINBURG, N.C.—Junior Kyle Loda (Vienna, Va.) broke a fourth quarter tie with the eventual game-winning goal with 6:38 left in the game, lifting host St. Andrews Presbyterian College to a 7-6 Conference Carolinas men’s lacrosse victory over visiting Pfeiffer University on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior goalkeeper Nate Hull (Millersville, Md.) made a season-high 21 saves helping the Knights remain perfect in the league at 2-0. SAPC maintains a 2-8 overall record.

The Falcons, who remain winless at 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference, erased a four-goal deficit after the first quarter tying the contest midway through the fourth quarter on a sophomore Wesley McMahon (Olney, Md.) goal.

St. Andrews jumped out to a 4-0 advantage after 15 minutes including a pair of goals by two-time reigning Conference Carolinas Player of the Week, junior Cole Howell (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada).

Freshman Nick Lewnes (Arnold, Md.) scored his second goal of the game in the middle of the second quarter to extend the Knights lead to 5-0.

Sophomore Chad Olsen (Great Mills, Md.) finally put the visitors on the board at the 5:26 mark of the second quarter. Hull and the Knights defense held the Falcons off the scoreboard for the first 24 minutes of the game.

Pfeiffer slowly chipped away at the deficit out scoring St. Andrews 2-1 in the final three quarters. The Knights continued to lead 6-4 heading into the final period but the Falcons scored the first two goals of the frame including a tally by sophomore Jameson Schultz (High Point, N.C.) in the first minute of the fourth quarter.

McMahon’s goal with 7:31 showing on the clock tied the score for the only time in the game at 6-6. However, the Knights would not be out done and Loda put St. Andrews back on top just 53 seconds later.

Junior Zachary Miller (Middletown, Del.) was working around the back of the Falcons goal when he connected with a streaking Loda, who put away the game-winner.

The Knights defense once again picked up its play late holding Pfeiffer off the board in the final seven minutes to preserve the one-goal victory including an important 30-second extra-man opportunity kill in the final minute of the game. Hull made 13 of his 21 saves in the second half.

Falcons’ senior netminder Pat Martin (Leanordtown, Md.) had a solid game in net for Pfeiffer making 17 saves.

St. Andrews held 44-42 shot and 40-30 ground ball advantages while dominating face offs with junior Ethan Young (Hilliard, Ohio) dominating the draws winning 12-of-15.

Howell, Lewnes, and Loda all had two goals for the Knights while Lewnes had a team-high four points with a pair of assists. St. Andrews passed the ball well picking up assists on all seven goals. Howell, freshman Ryan McNeeley (Gambrills, Md.), freshman Charles Lewis (Greensboro, N.C.), and sophomore Kyle Carnaggio (Pasadena, Md.) had the Knights other helpers.

Six different Falcons scored including junior Kevin Anderson (Altamonte Springs, Fla.), who led Pfeiffer with a three-point performance adding two assists.

St. Andrews visits non-conference Mars Hill College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Pfeiffer hosts Briarcliff College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
