LAURINBURG, N.C.—Four different Knights scored four or more goals as St. Andrews Presbyterian College, currently ranked No. 10 in the USILA national poll, coasted past Wheeling Jesuit University 21-4 in NCAA Division II men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon.
The Knights are off to their best start under third year head coach Michael Lawson at 3-0 overall. The Cardinals fell to 1-1 on the early season.
St. Andrews scored the first 13 goals of the contest in the first 25 minutes and rolled to the 17-goal victory.
The Knights defense only allowed one goal in the first three periods before Wheeling Jesuit scored three late extra-man opportunity goals in the fourth quarter.
Seniors attacks Zach Mryncza (Baltimore, Md.) and Dalen Crouse (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada) each posted eight points for SAPC. Mryncza led the Knights with five goals while also dishing out three assists. Crouse provided four helpers to go along with his four scores.
Sophomore Cole Howell (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada) followed with four goals and three assists for seven points on the day. Senior brother Drew Howell (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada) was the fourth Knight to register four or more goals with four.
Senior Tony Ferreira (Youngsville, N.C.) chipped in with a goal and an assist. Ferreira along with senior Tom Watt (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) and sophomore John Osterritter (Arnold, Md.) all scored their first goals of the season against WJU.
Senior Dan Hartzell (Lacombe, Alberta, Canada) added a goal while senior Sean Todd (Union Bridge, Md.) tallied an assist.
Sophomore goalkeeper Nate Hull (Millersville, Md.) improved to a perfect 3-0 with 14 saves while only allowing four goals. Classmate Ethan Young (Hilliard, Ohio) helped SAPC dominate the face offs winning 18 of his 26 attempts on the draw while also grabbing a game-high 15 ground balls.
The Knights out shot the Cardinals 47-30, held a 68-48 advantage on ground balls, and won 20-of-28 face-offs.
St. Andrews will visit No. 3 nationally ranked Mercyhurst College (Erie, Pa.) on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
