Round 2 Scores

Ponte Vedra Beach, FL– St. Andrews University fired identical rounds of 311 on Monday and stands tied for seventh place in the 12-team Marjorie Whitney Invitational Golf Tournament on the Pete Dye Valley Course at famed TPC Sawgrass.

St. Andrews junior Matt Latham shot 75-73-148 (+4) and is in seventh place individually in the 64-player field. Freshman Severin Kolmeder is 11 th overall at 76-74-150 and freshman Carl Rudhag is 27 th at 75-81-156. Also playing for the Knights are junior Paul Eastwood (86-83-169) and freshman Hunter McPhillips (85-92-177).

“Matt was patient and managed his expectations well,” fifth-year SAU head coach Lisa Becka said. “The golf course is difficult, and Matt realized that, so he stayed in present and didn’t beat himself. He is only five shots out of second place, so I would love to see him challenge for medalist honors.”

Nova Southeastern University (310-283) leads with a score of 593. Barry University (295-304) is six strokes behind the Sharks with a 599, while Abilene Christian (299-305) is in third after scoring a 604.

After playing a consistent two rounds of golf despite the showers in the morning, the host Queens University of Charlotte Royals (303-304) are currently tied for fourth place with Barton (311-296) after shooting a 607.

Leading the entire group individually is Nova Southeastern’s Ben Taylor, who shot a five-under par score of 67 in round two. That paired with his 72 from the morning round gave him a score of 139. Greg Mergel of Flagler and Daniel Stapff of Barry are tied in second with scores of 143. Only two players broke par in the morning rain, and both shot 1-under 71 on the par-72, 6,864-yard layout

“This is a small, but strong field of teams,” Becka said, noting that six teams are ranked among the top 21 in the country in the latest NCAA DII Nike/Golf World Coaches Poll. “Our goal is to play better tomorrow and make our way into the top six.”

The third and final round will be played tomorrow beginning at 8:30 am.
