St. Andrews Men Finish 12th at NSU Invite

Palm Beach Gardens, FL- After three rounds at the beautiful PGA National: Champion Course, the St. Andrews University men’s golf team shot their way to a 12 th place finish at the 6 th annual NSU Shark Invitational, hosted by Nova Southeastern University.

Fourteen men’s teams competed in the two-day, 36-hole event including: Barry University, Nova Southeastern University, Lynn University, Johnson & Wales University- Florida, University of Indianapolis, Barton College, Florida Southern College, Arkansas-Fort Smith, Wilmington (DE), Florida Tech, Eckerd College, St. Andrews University, Post University, and Bentley University; finishing 1 st-14 th in the order listed, with Arkansas and Wilmington tying for 8 th place.

Taking first place, the Barry University men’s team played the 72 par, 6,868 yard Champion Course with great skill as they finished the event one under par (288-286-289/863) after today’s final round of play, en route to an impressive 14 stroke lead over the second place team. Barry University junior Simon Forsslund drove his way to a first place; finished -5 after 36 holes. Two Conference Carolinas golfers carded rounds that landed them amongst the top 10 finishers. Barton College made an impressive showing in Florida as the men’s team finished 6 th with Michael Marshburn (73-70-73/216) coming in 6 th individually and Daniel Claytor (70-78-70/218) tying for 9 th.

With the first six finishers coming in under par or even, the men of St. Andrews University had their work cut out for them. SAU Junior Matt Latham (Exmouth, Devon, England) finished the invitational in an eight-way tie for 28 th. Latham’s three-round total of 226 (82-71-73) left him at +10 overall. Taking only four more strokes than Latham, Carl Rudhag’s (Gothenburgl, Sweden) tie for the 46 th place finish (71-78-81/230) shows just how tough the competition was at the NSU Shark Invite.

Tegernbach, Germany, native Severin Kolmeder also found himself finishing with the same score as two other competitors when he carded a 238 (81-79-78) after he finished his best round of the event this afternoon. Coming in fourth for SAU, freshman David Kostyal (Wilmington, NC) tied for 65 th with two golfers from Post University. Kostyal’s consistent play and steady improvement led him to scores of 81-80-78/239. Representing yet another country on the St. Andrews roster, Andrew Primeau of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, scored 85-86-83/254 in his three rounds of play in Palm Beach Gardens.

The St. Andrews men will make another journey to Florida in a few weeks for their last event of the fall season. On October 31 and November 1 the SAU team will join several colleges and universities from across the country to play in the Queens Invitational. The tournament will be held in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL at the TPC Sawgrass: Valley Course.
