Kiawah Island , SC — A revamped St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s golf lineup turned in a scintillating 6 over par round of 294 on Monday to claim third place after the first round of the 17 team Kiawah Island Invitational at Cougar Point.
Leading the 85 player collegiate field on an incredibly humid afternoon were ten golfers who broke par, including St. Andrews standouts freshman Carl Rudhag (70) of Billdal Sweden and Junior Matt Latham (71) of Devon, England.
“I played awesome!” Rudhag said. “My drives were deep and accurate. I thought the course yielded a lot of birdie opportunities.” Team captain Matt Latham is enjoying the new recruits. “We played better because we have some strong new players and the atmosphere amongst the team members is very relaxed.”
The Knights lineup features five players from five different countries. SAPC scorers include: Severin Kolmeder (74) of Tegernbach, Germany; Andrew Primeau (79) of St. Catharines Ontario, Canada; and Paul Eastwood (82) of Belfast, Ireland. “The thought of a new season is exciting to me,” uttered Coach Lisa Becka in the start of her fifth season as head coach of the Men’s and Women’s golf teams at St. Andrews. “To be in the presence of these young guns is a sheer delight. I am optimistic about the possibilities of the season!”
