MOORESVILLE, N.C.—Freshman Jack McClelland (Guildford, Surrey, England) competed in his first-ever NCAA Division II National Tournament competition for St. Andrews Presbyterian College finishing 41st in the 2008 Atlantic Regional hosted by Belmont Abbey College at The Point Lake and Golf Club earlier this week.
McClelland received an at-large bid to the Atlantic Regional after boasting a scoring average around 77 in his freshman season.
McClelland bounced back from rounds of 85 and 86 on the first two days of the Tournament by firing a five-over par 77 in Wednesday’s final round. McClelland moved up to 41st place after posting his 77 on the 7,037-yard Point Lake layout and finishing with 54-hole total of 248 (+31).McClelland's 77 was better than 24 other golfers scorecards on Wednesday.
McClelland finished of his rookie year in dramatic fashion by carding four birdies in his last nine holes including a birdie on his last hole to finish with a one-under par 35 to take some momentum into next season.
First year head coach Lisa Becka will announce St. Andrews 2008 fall golf schedules later this summer.
