Kristinsson leads Knights golfers at Jack Shadwick

SENECA, S.C.—Senior Alfred Kristinsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) led the St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s golf team to a tied for 11th place finish out of 19 teams in the 2007 Jack Shadwick Invitational at the Cross Creek Plantation with a two-day total of eight-over par with rounds of 77 and 73.

After posting a team total of 318 on Monday, SAPC moved up the leaderboard with its lowest 18-hole team total of the season on Tuesday with a 311. St. Andrews 36-hole total of 629, also a season-low, tied them with William Carey University for 11th place out of 19 teams.

Kristinsson tied for 19th place out of 90 golfers with his 150 stroke total to pace the Knights. After opening with a six-over 77 on the 6,875-yard, par-71 Cross Creek Plantation layout, Kristinsson fired the lowest individual round of the season for St. Andrews golfers with a two-over 73 in the final round.

Freshman Jack McClelland (Guilford, Surrey, England) improved by two shots from his first collegiate competition for the Knights by carding an 80-77—157 at the Southern Wesleyan University hosted tournament.

Sophomore Scott Bennett (Laurinburg, N.C.) signed consistent scorecards of 80 and 81 for the Knights, finishing with a total of 161.

The young Knights squad had two other first-year players gaining valuable experience in tournament play. Sophomore Thordur Gissurarson (Reykjavik, Iceland) added an 81-83—164 for the Knights while freshman Rafael Garcia (Puebla, Mexico) bounced back from an opening 89 with an 80 to finish with a 169 total.

St. Andrews will next compete in the Tusculum Fall Golf Classic at the Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn., on Monday and Tuesday, October 1-2.
