First Round Results
POOLER, Ga.—Senior John Kolls (Durham, N.C.) fired a seven-over par 79 on Monday afternoon as an individual participant in the 2007 NCAA Division II Atlantic/Southeast Men’s Golf Regional hosted by Armstrong Atlantic State University at the Savannah Quarters Country Club.
Playing the 7,066-yard, par-72 championship tees at Savannah Quarters, Kolls finished the first round of the 54-tournament in a two-way tie for fifth place with his 79. Kolls started the day with a 40 on the back side before making the turn and carding a 39 on the front. Kolls, who finished tied for fourth in the Atlantic Regional in 2006, is only four strokes back of the tournament leader.
Junior Alfred Kristinsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) is also competing as an individual for the Knights in the Atlantic Regional. Kristinsson opened the tournament with an 84, which put him in a tie for 19th place out of 45 golfers with 36-holes still to be played.
Kolls and Kristinsson are both competing for one individual bid to the NCAA Division II National Championships in Allendale, Mich., on May 22-25. The low individual after 54-holes in the Atlantic Regional that is not on a team that qualifies for nationals will earn that one invitation.
Second and third round competition will begin with tee-times starting at 8:00 a.m. on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
