April 10, 2007

GREENVILLE, S.C.—Senior John Kolls (Durham, N.C.) paced the St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s golf team to its most impressive finish of the spring as the Knights finished fourth out of 15 teams at the 2007 BMW Collegiate at the Verdae Greens Golf Club (hosted by North Greenville University).

Kolls finished in a four-way tie for third place out of 88 golfers with a two-day total of 147. Kolls fired rounds of 74 and 73 on the 6,847-yard, par-72 layout to finish just three strokes behind the medalist winner. Kolls, who totaled a 74.45 stroke average in 2006/07 heading into postseason play, logged his fifth top-10 result of the year with his three-over par total in the 36-hole tourney.

The No. 10 Atlantic Region ranked St. Andrews golf team finished in fourth place out of 15 colleges with a two-day total of 609. The Knights, who were in a four-way tie for sixth place at the midway point of the tournament, moved up to fourth place with the second lowest total on Tuesday. SAPC posted an impressive 10-over 298 on the scoreboard in the final round.

Senior Alvin Yeung (Markham, Ontario, Canada) helped the Knights move up the leaderboard the most on Tuesday with the low-round of the day. Yeung battled back from an opening 80 with a one-under par 71 to finish tied for 13th with a six-over total of 150.

Junior Alfred Kristinsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) signed away two round of five-over 77 to finish tied for 28th. Sophomore Dwight Meeker (Ocoee, Fla.) had his best collegiate tournament by turning in scorecards of 82 and 77. Freshman Scott Bennett (Laurinburg, N.C.) concluded St. Andrews play with 18-hole scores of 81 and 82.

The Knights finished 17 shots behind tournament winner Presbyterian College, seven strokes from second-place Barton College, and just three shots out of third-place Clayton State University. SAPC defeated four regionally ranked CVAC schools including No. 3 Pfeiffer, No. 5 Anderson, No. 8 Limestone, and No. 9 Queens.

St. Andrews looks to ride the momentum of the BMW success into the 2007 CVAC Golf Championships at the Salem Glen Golf & Country Club in Clemmons, N.C. The 54-hole conference championship will be played out form April 22-24 as the Knights look for a high finish and a fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Atlantic Super Regional.
