Host St. Andrews finish fifth in Fall Invitational

Final Results

WAGRAM, N.C.—Mount Olive backed up an opening 289 with Tuesday-best 294 to win the team title in the nine-team tournament during the 2006 St. Andrews Fall Invitational at the Deercroft Golf Club by eight strokes with a 583 total.

All five Trojans posted scores of 78 or lower in each of the two rounds on the 6,573-yard, par-72 layout to win the tournament with a seven-over par total of 583. Junior Chris Bitzenhofer (Raleigh, N.C.) led MOC with a 72-73=145 (+1) total for a seventh place finish. Junior Cameron Phillips (Kinston, N.C.) and sophomore Mikael Moberg (Gavle, Sweden) tied for eighth place with 146 totals. Phillips had the low Trojan round on Tuesday carding a 71 after an opening 75. Moberg had rounds of 69 and 77.

Limestone College placed second with a 591 total while Barton followed one stroke behind in third at 592. Lander improved seven strokes on the second day to finish fourth at 597. Host St. Andrews maintained fifth at 598. Newberry and Barton’s ‘B’ teams were sixth and seventh, respectively, with 606 and 608 totals. Queens University of Charlotte concluded team scoring in eighth with a 630.

Paul Butler (Gaffney, S.C.) won the individual title by five strokes with a 36-hole total of eight-under par 136. Butler was the only player in the 44-entrant field to sign for two rounds in the 60’s with a 67 and a 69.

St. Andrews senior Alvin Yeung (Markham, Ontario, Canada) and Barton freshman Kyle Post (Lake Forest, Ill.) tied for second with three-under par 141’s. SAPC junior Alfred Kristinsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) and Queens freshman Scott Kegerreis (Chambersburg, Pa.) tied for fourth with two-under 142’s.

Butler, Yeung, Post, Kristinsson, and Kegerreis were the only players under par.

Yeung was consistent with 18-hole totals of 70 and 71 while Kristinsson climbed the leaderboard by following an opening 73 with a team-low three-under par 69 on Tuesday.

Senior John Kolls (Durham, N.C.) carded a pair of 73’s to finish tied for eighth with a 146 total. Senior Rebel Kennedy (Sundridge, Ontario, Canada) provided an 84-85=169 while freshman Oscar Lansberg (Gothemburg, Sweden) concluded play with an 89-87=176.

Tuesday’s 298 team total for SAPC was a season-low.

The Knights travel to Greeneville, Tenn., for the Tusculum Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, October 2-3.
