Day 1 Results
WAGRAM, N.C.—Mount Olive College posted a one-over par 289 team-total to take a three stroke lead in the 2006 St. Andrews Fall Invitational after Monday’s opening round on the 6,578-yard, par-72 Deecroft Golf Club. CVAC rivals Limestone, Barton, and St. Andrews are all lurking within 11 strokes of MOC.
Sophomore Mikael Moberg (Gavle, Sweden) and junior Chris Bitzenhofer (Raleigh, N.C.) led the Trojans to the overnight lead with rounds of 69 and 72, respectively.
Senior Paul Butler (Gaffney, S.C.) of Limestone College holds a two-stroke lead over Moberg and Barton ‘B’ player Marcus Dunning (Lancashire, England). Butler has guided the Saints into second place with a team total of 292 after posting a five-under par 67.
Barton College has its ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams sitting in third and fourth, respectively, with totals of 296 and 299.
Host St. Andrews Presbyterian College sits in fifth place out of nine teams with an opening 300. The Knights 12-over par total is an 18-hole team low for the 2006-07 campaign.
Other team scores include No. 6 Lander (302); No. 7 Newberry ‘B’ (310); No. 8 Queens (314); and No. 9 North Carolina Wesleyan (346).
Senior Alvin Yeung (Markham, Ontario, Canada) leads the Knights with an opening two-under 70. Classmate John Kolls (Durham, N.C.) and junior Alfred Kristinsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) followed with a pair of one-over 73’s. Senior Rebel Kennedy (Sundridge, Ontario, Cananda) added an 84 while freshman Oscar Lansberg (Gothemburg, Sweden) followed with an 89.
The nine teams will conclude the 36-hole tournament with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
