BADIN LAKE, N.C.—For the second straight week senior John Kolls (Durham, N.C.) led the St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s golf team. Kolls carded a three-day total of 226 to lead the Knights to a 16th place finish at the 2006 Johnny Palmer/Old North State Invitational (hosted by Pfeiffer University) on Monday and Tuesday.
After a disappointing first day totals of 328 and 317, St. Andrews rebounded with their best team total of the year on Tuesday. The Knights finished with a 302 (+14) in the finale for their low team round of the 2006-2007 campaign. SAPC’s 947 total was good for 16th place in a large field.
USC-Upstate won the team title by seven strokes over Coastal Carolina with a three-round total of 878. Billy Belair of Lander University won the individual medalist honors with a 73-68-71=212.
Kolls posted rounds of 77 and 72 during Monday’s long 36-hole day and followed with another 77 on Tuesday to finish tied for 24th out of 97 golfers. Kolls 54-hole total of 10-over par on the 7,102-yard, par-72 Old North State Club layout led all SAPC golfers. Kolls has turned in rounds of 70’s in all five competitive rounds this season.
Junior Alfred Kristinsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) followed Kolls with an 81-77-75=233 (T-56th) total. Freshman Matt Doyle (LaQuinta, Calif.) posted an 81-86-75=242 (T-78); freshman Scott Bennett (Laurinburg, N.C.) signed an 89-88-75=252 (T-87) total; and freshman Oscar Lansberg (Gothemberg, Sweden) finished with a 94-82-85=261.
The Knights next host the 2006 St. Andrews Fall Invitational at the Deercroft Golf and Country Club (Wagram, N.C.) on Monday & Tuesday, September 25-26.
