Kolls and Johnston lead Knights golfers at Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C.—Senior John Kolls (Durham, N.C.) finished tied for sixth with an even-par 144 total to lead the St .Andrews Presbyterian College men’s golf team at the Anderson University Invitational at the Brookstone Meadows Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday. Senior Andrea Johnston (Chapel Hill, N.C.) led three Lady Knights’ individuals with a 172 total.

The SAPC men’s golf team finished eighth out of nine teams with a 705 total. Tusculum College won the team title by two strokes over the host Trojans with a 578 total.

Kolls opened up his final year at St. Andrews with a two-under par 70 on the 6,685-yard, par-72 Brookstone Meadows layout. Kolls followed Monday’s impressive round with a 74 to finish tied for sixth out of 46 golfers.

Sophomore Alfred Kristinsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) followed Kolls with a T-14th place finish with a three-over 74-73-147 scorecard. Freshmen Scott Bennett (Laurinburg, N.C.) and Matt Doyle (LaQuinta, Calif.) opened up their collegiate careers with 84-75-159 and 78-83-161 rounds, respectively.

Rounding out the St. Andrews men’s team was senior Rebel Kennedy (Sundridge, Ontario, Canada) with a 84-95-179 total.

The Lady Knights opened up the 2006-2007 season with only three individuals competing in the opening tournament. USC-Upstate won the women’s team title by 32 strokes over Tusculum with a 620 total.

Johnston opened up her senior campaign with rounds of 88 and 84 on the 6,116-yard, par-72 layout. The 172 total was goof for a tie for 27th place out of 49 golfers.

Junior Laura Correia (Centerville, Mass.) opened up her playing career at St. Andrews posting a total of 93-90-183. Sophomore Alessandra Maurtua (Lima, Peru) carded a 93-92-185 total.

The Knights head to Badin Lake, N.C., for the Johnny Palmer/Old North State Invitational (hosted by Pfeiffer) on Monday and Tuesday, September 18-19. The Lady Knights return to competition in two weeks when they host the St. Andrews Fall Invitational at the Deercroft Golf and Country Club in Wagram, N.C. on Monday and Tuesday, September 25-26.
