CONCORD, NC—Junior John Kolls (Durham, NC) shot a tournament-low four-under par 68 on Wednesday in route to a tie for fourth place in the 2006 NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional. Kolls led the St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s golf team to a fourth place finish out of eight teams with a three-day total of 925.

The Knights, who also finished fourth in the 2004 Atlantic Regional, tied its best NCAA finish with rounds of 308, 313, and 304 at the Rocky River Golf Club (hosted by Pfeiffer University). The 54-hole total of 925 was only 13 strokes away from qualifying for nationals.

Kolls, who shot rounds of 75 and 79 on the 6,970-yard, par-72 layout the first two days, stormed into contention during the final round by posting the low round of the tournament, 68, in the 45-player field. Only one individual from each regional qualifies for nationals (that is not on a team that qualified) and tournament medalist Dion Sirianni (Lees-McRae) edged Kolls by five-strokes with a one-over 217 total to take the honors.

Senior Graham Bell (Sarnia, Ontario, Canada) followed Kolls with a tie for 20th place finish with consistent rounds of 76, 76, and 79 (231 total). Freshman Alfred Kristinsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) and junior Alvin Yeung (Markham, Ontario, Canada) each carded three-day totals of 238 while senior Nathan Young (Kewanee, Illinois) concluded the Knights scoring with a 246 total.

St. Andrews will look to use the momentum from its late season success at both the CVAC Championships and the NCAA Regional for its best season yet in 2006/2007.

NOTES: Coker College (898), Pfeiffer University (898) and Barton College (908) all qualified for nationals from the Atlantic Regional. It marked the first time that three CVAC colleges qualified for the national tournament making the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference one of the strongest golf conferences in D-II.
