WHITAKERS, NC—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s golf team finished 11 strokes out of first place in the squad’s first tournament of 2006, finishing fourth at the Don Scalf Invitational Golf Tournament (hosted by NC Wesleyan) held at the Hickory Meadows Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.

Cape Fear Community College claimed the Don Scalf team title with a two-day team score of 602 (299-303). Mount Olive (310-298-608) placed second, Wingate (307-302-609) finished third, and St. Andrews (305-308-613) was fourth out of 10 teams.

Junior Alvin Yeung (Markham, Ontario, Canada) led the Knights with rounds of 74 and 75 on the 6,423-yard, par-72 layout. Yeung’s five-over par 149 total was good for a tie for sixth place out of 52 golfers.

Day two saw the Sea Devils hold their lead with a 303.  Mt. Olive College made it close with the team low round of 298. The Trojans finished six strokes behind Cape Fear and one stroke ahead of third place finisher Wingate. St. Andrews slipped to fourth place, while Fayetteville State rounded out the top five.
