Knights women's golfers make record setting trip to Myrtle Beach

CLAYTON , NC—With only four golfers making the trip, the St. Andrews women’s golf team recorded their best 36-hole tournament score in the programs brief three-year history with a 712 on Monday and Tuesday at the Bay Tree Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, SC.

After opening up with a 364 on Monday, all four Knights fired back with lower rounds on Tuesday to produce a second day total of 348. SAPC finished 18th out of 21 teams in a very strong tournament that is hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne College.

The University of West Florida won the team title with a 615, four strokes ahead of Grand Valley State.

Sophomore Heather Pothier (Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada) led the Knights with rounds of 78 and 76 on the 5,807-yard, par-72 Gold Course Layout. Pothier’s 154 total was good for a tie for 10th in the 105 entrant field.

Junior Andrea Johnston (Chapel Hill, NC) finished tied for 41st with an 85-81-166. Sophomore Tara Laird (Manilla, IN) followed with a 100-92-192 and sophomore Sally McDaniel (Stanley, NC) completed the Knights play with a 101-99-200.

Tonya Choate of Drury University won the individual medalist honors with a one-over, 73-72-145.

St. Andrews finishes its fall season at the Lady Indian Invitational (hosted by Catawba) in Salisbury, North Carolina on October 17-18.
