WAGRAM , NC—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s golf team fired an opening 298 to hold a slim one-stroke advantage over Mount Olive halfway through the Third Annual St. Andrews Fall Invitational at the Deercroft Golf & Country Club. USC Update and Limestone College both carded team totals of 342 to share the overnight lead in the women’s segment.
Men
Junior John Kolls (Durham, NC) shot the only round under par on the 6,573-yard, par-72 layout to propel the Knights into first place. Kolls finished strong with an eagle on the par-5 17th and a birdie on the par-4 18th to post a 68 (-4).
Kolls has a four stroke lead on Brandon Barfield (Mount Olive) and a five-spot advantage on Craig Reasor (Lincoln Memorial).
St. Andrews (298), the 2004 Fall Invitational Champions, will try and defend its title by holding off CVAC rival Mount Olive (299). The six-team includes Limestone (312), Lincoln Memorial (315), Fayetteville State (317), and Chowan (352).
KNIGHTS SCORES: Graham Bell sits in a three-way tie for sixth place with an opening 76; Alfred Kristinsson and Chas McDougald are one-stroke back with 77’s; Rebel Kennedy and Dwight Meeker followed with a pair of 80’s; Peter Galan posted an 84; while Todd Miller turned in an 88.
Women
Trish Randall blistered the 5,829-yard, par-72 women’s layout with a 77 to open up a four stroke lead heading into Tuesday’s finale. Randall helped the first year USC Upstate program tie Limestone College for the team lead after both squads shot a 342.
Katie Clayton (Limestone) has the best chance of catching Randall after carding an 81. Andrea Johnston (St. Andrews) and Jen McLean (Limestone) are tied for third with 83’s.
Rounding out the team competition in third to sixth are Mount Olive (357), Belmont Abbey (358), St. Andrews (365), and Lincoln Memorial (366).
KNIGHTS SCORES: Heather Pothier is tied for fifth with an opening 85 while Tara Laird and Sally McDaniel turned in scores of 98 and 99, respectively.
Tomorrow’s final round will be a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
