Knights golfers finish 6th at Anderson

ANDERSON, SC—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College golf teams opened up the 2005/2006 season at the Anderson College Invitational Monday and Tuesday. The men’s team finished sixth in the 36-hole event while the women’s team finished 10th.

Men

The St. Andrews men’s golf team dropped two spots from Monday’s opening round after following a 299 with a 316 for a two-day total of 615. Cape Fear Community College won the team title with a 287-291-578, jumping ahead of Tri-County Community College (286-295-581). Host Anderson followed in third with a 296-298-594.

Freshman Alfred Kristinsson (Reykjvik, Iceland) led SAPC, shooting the Knights only round in the 70’s on Tuesday. Kristinsson carded a 78-74-152, which was good for a tie for 16th, on the 6,402-yard par-71 Brookstone Meadows Golf Club.

Sophomore John Kolls (Durham, NC) and senior Nathan Young (Kewanee, IL) tied for 23rd with two-day totals of 154. Kolls shot rounds of 72 and 82 while Young fired a 73 and 81. Junior Alvin Yeung (Markham, Ont., Canada) followed with a 76-80-156 and junior Rebel Kennedy (Sundridge, Ont., Canada) finished the Knights scoring with a 78-81-159.

Tri-County’s Anthony Richey won the individual title shooting five-under par, 69-68-137.

Women

Sophomore Heather Pothier (Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada) had an impressive fourth place showing for the St. Andrews women’s golf team after carding a 76-81-157 on the 5,217-yar, par-71 Brookstone Meadows Golf Club.

Junior Knight Andrea Johnston (Chapel Hill, NC) tied Pothier on the second day to finish in the top-20 with a 19th place finish firing an 86-81-167. Sophomore Tara Laird (Manilla, IN) and senior Kristen Bowling (Marietta, GA) completed the Knights scoring with a 93-92-185 and 126-134-260, respectively.

St. Andrews finished 10th with a score of 381-388-769, with only four golfers participating in its first tournament. Catawba won the team title with a 326-327-653, two shots ahead of Wingate (331-324-655).

Catawba’s Paige Haverty was named tournament medalist after shooting a 75-76-151.
