Charleston, SC- Men’s Cross Country took the line as the St. Andrews University team for the first time today as they competed in the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by The Citadel in Charleston, SC. The Knights harriers picked up the pace and claimed third place out of the seven colleges and universities competing in the event at the D-II level.
Bear Creek, NC, native James Walls easily took the second place spot in the D-II group as he reached the finish line in 28:10.94 minutes; 10 seconds before the third place runner, Angel Soriano of Carson-Newman. In fact, Walls was only one second behind Jakob Maidens, a senior at Lenoir-Rhyne University, who was the first D-II runner to finish the race. Freshman Dagmawi Abebe (Gaithersburg, MD) earned himself 13 th in the 8k race, missing a top-10 finish by a little over a minute.
Coming in third for the Knights, Tyler Beaver (Hillsborough, NC) stole the last spot in the top 25% of the competitors (15 th). Up next for SAU were freshmen Patrick Ochoa (Derwood, MD) and Brandon Watson (Benson, NC), who landed in the 29 th and 30 th spots respectively.
The St. Andrews University Knights finished 3rd at the D-II level behind Lenoir-Rhyne University (1st) and North Greenville University (2nd). Carson-Newman (4th), Warren Wilson (5th), Armstrong Atlantic (6th), and Paine (7th) rounded out the team scoring.
The Knights will appear again next Saturday, October 1, when they travel to Greensboro, NC, to compete at Hagan Stone.
