WILMINGTON, N.C.—Senior James Walls (Bear Creek, N.C.) placed 13th overall and was the third fastest Division II harrier to lead four St. Andrews Presbyterian individuals at the Seahawk Invitational hosted by UNC Wilmington on Friday evening.
James Walls (pictured), who finished 29th in the 2009 Seahawk Invitational, started his senior season in impressive fashion by taking 13th overall in the 2010 Seahawk Invite Friday evening.

Walls excelled at a distance that men rarely compete at in the collegiate level. Walls completed the three loops around the UNCW recreation and athletic fields that measured 6,000-meters in 20:02.86. Walls finished 13th out of 79 entrants, which marked his seventh career top-20 finish in a Royal Blue and White uniform.
“The men's team tried to use this as an opportunity to match up against some faster Division I runners since 6k can be an awkward distance to race for guys,” said Micheal Coggins, SAPC first year head coach. “We only ran four guys, but everyone is right on pace with building towards success later this season.”
A pair of fellow senior classmates followed Walls to the finish line. Josh Pickett (Asheville, N.C.) captured 30th place with at time of 21:31.07. Tommy Wilson (Salisbury, N.C.) also finished in the upper half of the field by completing the endurance race in 21:58.27, which was good for 38th overall.
Pickett and Wilson claimed the ninth and 13th overall position, respectively, out of non-DI or unattached harriers.
Freshman Caleb Mitcler (Green Mountain, N.C.) concluded competition for the Knights, crossing the finish line in his first collegiate race in 26:09.97.
St. Andrews will next compete at the UNC Pembroke Invitational at the Luther Britt Park in Lumberton, N.C., on Saturday, September 18. The men’s race is slated to start at 9:45 a.m.
