NEW ORLEANS, La.—St. Andrews Presbyterian College was the only Conference Carolinas institution to have both its men’s and women’s cross country teams be credited with U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic roll accolades for the 2009 season announced Monday.
The Lady Knights made it for the second straight year under second year head coach Jim Walters with a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.33. The SAPC men’s harriers garnered All-Academic distinction for the first time with a cumulative GPA of 3.04.
For a team to be considered USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
The St. Andrews was one of 62 NCAA Division II men’s teams that made the 2009 list and was the only Conference Carolinas men’s team to earn the honor. The Lady Knights joined one other league school and 101 total women’s teams to make the roll in 2009. There are currently 237 NCAA Division II institution’s that sponsor men’s cross country and 265 school’s that field D-II women’s cross country.
