Holt bested the field of 51 harriers with a season-best time of 27:01 in an 8,000-meter (8k) race. The two-time All-Conference honoree was just four seconds off his collegiate PR time of 26:57 set at the 2007 Conference Carolinas Championships.
Holt – already a Conference Carolinas Runner of the Week this season – has paced the Knights in all four races this season. His victory at Mount Olive led SAPC to a third place finish out of seven teams with 61 points. Pembroke Gold won the race with 39 points and the host Trojans followed in second place with 45 points.
St. Andrews left a couple Southeast Region foes in their wake by packing all five of its scoring runners in the top-20 of the field.
Junior James Walls (Bear Creek, N.C.) posted an impressive fifth place finish with a blazing speed of 27:59. Walls has broken the 28 minute barrier twice in 2009. Classmate Jon Lecker (Minneola, Fla.) was the third fastest Knights by crossing the finish line in 16th place with a speed of 29:36.
Junior Tommy Wilson (Salisbury, N.C.) led freshman teammate Will James (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) in close order through the finish line to conclude the Knights scoring five. Wilson claimed 19th overall with a time of 30:05 while James garnered 20th place with a mark of 30:14.
Senior James Lloyd (Lusby, Md.) joined Holt as the only other Knight to have their best 8k time of the season at the MOC Invite. Lloyd completed the endurance race in 28th place with a time of 31:28. Classmate Brad McKee (Kings Mountain, N.C.) rounded out competition for St. Andrews at 32:35.
St. Andrews will next try and defend its 2008 Conference Carolinas team title. Queens University of Charlotte will be hosting the 2009 Conference Carolinas Championships at the McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C., on Friday, October 23 with the men’s 8k race scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
