LAURINBURG, N.C.—The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has released the 2008 Division II men’s cross country regional rankings for Week No. 3 and the St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s cross country team is ranked fourth in the Southeast Region.
After winning their first two competitions of the 2008 season, the Knights moved up one spot from No. 5 to No. 4 in the Southeast Region. St. Andrews has won the UNC Pembroke Invitational and the Limestone Invitational. The Knights were ranked fifth in the region in the preseason poll and the first two weekly polls before moving up this week.
St. Andrews won the Limestone Invitational with an impressive 25 points on Saturday with its top-five scoring harriers placing in the top-10.
SAPC competes in the newly realigned Southeast Region that consists of all the member institutions in the Conference Carolinas, Peach Belt Conference, and South Atlantic Conference (SAC). The Knights has had either the team or an individual qualify for the National Championships each of the past three years and will be looking to contend for a trip back later this year. St. Andrews is competing with a veteran team this season that consists of 10 letter winners.
St. Andrews will try and make it three straight when they next compete in the Belmont Abbey Invitational on Saturday, October 4. The men’s 8k race on the Brother Paul Trail begins at 9:45 a.m. Belmont Abbey will host the Conference Carolinas Championships on the same course later in the year.
The next Southeast Regional Poll will be released on Tuesday, September 30th.
