THOMASVILLE, N.C.—St. Andrews Presbyterian College’s Mitch Cooper has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas men's cross country Runner of the Week during week number two in the 2008 season.
Cooper started his senior season in grand fashion, winning the individual title at the 47th annual UNC Pembroke Invitational and helping the St. Andrews men's cross country win the team title with an impressive 39 points. Cooper edged out teammate Pedro Tapia Jr. by five seconds to win the individual title with an impressive four-mile time of 21:02.41. Cooper defeated 50 other runners including harriers from Southeast Region foe's UNCP, Coker, and Mount Olive. The Virginia Beach, Va., native has now won three individual titles in his record-setting career at SAPC.
Cooper, who has won countless awards in his first three seasons in a Royal Blue and White uniform, has now been voted the Conference Men’s Runner of the Week three times. Cooper was a NCAA Division II National Championship individual qualifier in 2007.
Cooper and the St. Andrews men’s cross country team next race at the 8k Limestone Invitational in Gaffney, S.C. on Saturday, September 20 at 8:30 a.m.
