SAPC races to a runner-up finish at Hagan Stone October 6, 2007 GREENSBORO, N.C.—Junior Mitch Cooper (Virginia Beach, Va.) and sophomore Pedro Tapia Jr. (Sanford, N.C.) both finished in the top-10 overall with the same time of 26:55 to lead St. Andrews to a second place result out of nine teams at the 2007 Hagan Stone Park Cross Country Classic men’s 8k race on Saturday morning. Tapia followed just one place behind in ninth overall. Cooper and Tapia concluded the race at the Hagan Stone Park in fourth and fifth place, respectively, out of non-division I runners. Four different Knights finished in the top-20 out of non-DI contestants to lead No. 6 Southeast Region ranked St. Andrews to a runner-up showing with 71 points. New York Institute of Technology, ranked No. 5 in the Northeast Region, won the team title with 36 points. The Knights, who have finished first or second at Hagan Stone in each of the last three seasons, finished ahead of all of their regional competition. Freshman Doug Holt (Toms River, N.J.) blazed the trails for a 10th place finish with a time of 28:19. Classmate Josh Pickett (Asheville, N.C.) gutted out a top-20 finish in 19th place with a speed of 29:11. Sophomore James Lloyd (Lusby, Md.) rounded out the Knights top-five scoring runners in 30:30. Freshman Tommy Wilson (Salisbury, N.C.) clocked in at 30:45; senior Patrick Hogan ( Denton, N.C.) finished in 31:58; and sophomore Brad McKee (Kings Mountain, N.C.) concluded in 33:16. St. Andrews has two weeks to prepare for the 2007 Conference Carolinas Championships on Saturday, October 20. The men’s 8k race to crown a conference champion will start at 9:00 a.m. at the Roger Milliken Research Park (hosted by Converse College) in Spartanburg, S.C. SAPC Individual Results |
Cooper, who crossed the finish line just a split second faster than Tapia, finished the 8,000-meter course in eighth place out of 126 endurance runners for his fourth consecutive top-10 individual result of the season.
