Cooper named CVAC men's Runner of the Week

September 20, 2006

THOMASVILLE, N.C.—Mitch Cooper of St. Andrews Presbyterian College has been selected as the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) men’s cross country Runner of the Week.

Sophomore Mitch Cooper won his first collegiate individual title on Saturday taking home the first place trophy at the 2006 Wingate Invitational. Cooper finished the grueling 10,000-meter race in 33:50 and ahead of the other 109 participants. Cooper’s time was a collegiate PR in a 10k race. Cooper led a pack of four Knights runners that finished in the top-seven to claim the Southeast Pre-Regional team title over 12 other colleges. The Knights, the defending CVAC Champions and current Southeast No. 2 ranked program, have finished first and second in their first two races of the season thanks in part to two consecutive top-10 finishes by Cooper.

Cooper and the Knights men’s cross country team will try and defend their team title at the Hagan Stone Cross Country Classic on Saturday, September 30 in Greensboro, N.C.
