THOMASVILLE, N.C.—Pedro Tapia, Jr. of St. Andrews Presbyterian College has been selected as the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) men's cross country Runner of the Week on Wednesday.

Freshman Pedro Tapia, Jr. led the St. Andrews Presbyterian College men's cross country team to a second place finish out of 22 teams in the programs season-opening race at the Eye Opener (hosted by Spartanburg Methodist College) in Spartanburg, SC.

In his collegiate debut, Tapia posted an impressive 8k time of 26:56, good for a third place finish out of 172 college runners. The Sanford, N.C., native’s high finish led the Knights to victories over the other nine CVAC colleges in the race as his time was the best out of all conference entrants. St. Andrews only finished 25 points behind the fist place team, a nationally ranked squad.

Tapia and the rest of the Knights will compete in the Wingate Invitational (Southeast Pre-Regional) on Saturday morning.
