Morris, Chaplin named CVAC Runners of the Week

THOMASVILLE, NC—For the third time this year senior Kelly Chaplin has been selected as the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) women’s cross country Runner of the Week. The Knights swept the XC weekly awards as freshman Perry Morris was named the men’s Runner of the Week.  

Kelly Chaplin (Montpelier, VT) of St. Andrews Presbyterian College has been selected as the CVAC women’s cross country Runner of the Week for the third week this season. Chaplin continued her dominating running this year with a ninth place finish out of 181 runners at the University women’s 5k race at Hagan Stone Park Classic in Greensboro, NC. Chaplin finished the 5,000 meter course in an impressive 19:41 time. Chaplin finished ahead of all but one runner from 12 Division II colleges and ahead of all six CVAC schools. The seven Division I runners that finished ahead of Chaplin were all from No. 1 nationally ranked Duke University. Chaplin has finished in the top-10 in all three of her races this year including one victory.

 

Perry Morris (Austin, TX) of St. Andrews Presbyterian College has been selected as the CVAC men’s cross country Runner of the Week. Morris improved his personal record (PR) in an 8,000 meter race by 20 seconds, helping the St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s cross country team to their second victory of the season. Morris finished eighth out of 147 runners with a time of 26:48 in the Hagan Stone Park Classic in Greensboro, NC. Perry finished second out of the five scoring Knights, who all finished within one minute of each other. Morris’ finish not only helped St. Andrews defeat the nine other Division II schools in the race, but if all divisions were scored together the Knights would have also finished ahead of the Division I and III schools that participated.
