THOMASVILLE, NC—Chris Miller and Kelly Chaplin of St. Andrews Presbyterian College have been selected as the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) cross country Runners of the Week.
Sophomore Chris Miller (Cedar Park, TX) was named CVAC men’s cross country Runner of the Week. Miller dominated the men’s 10k race at the Wingate University Invitational, winning the individual title by 24 seconds and guiding the Knights to a third place finish in the 16-team field. Miller jumped out to the early lead and never looked back winning the 112-runner event with a 34:05 time on the 10,000-meter course. Miller’s finish was made even more impressive under the extremely hot weather conditions that saw many runners drop out. The Wingate Invite, which served as the southeast Pre-regional, featured eight of the top-10 teams in the region. Miller’s win helped the No. 2 regionally ranked Knights defeat six CVAC schools and 10 regional colleges. SAPC only lost to No. 1 ranked Mars Hill and South Region powerhouse Alabama-Huntsville.
Senior Kelly Chaplin (Montpelier, VT) was named CVAC women’s cross country Runner of the Week for the second straight week this season. Chaplin supported her case to being the Southeast Regions top female runner with a fourth place finish at the 6k Wingate Invitational. Chaplin finished the Southeast Pre-Regional in 24:11 and ahead of every runner from all seven CVAC and all 12 Regional colleges in the 124-entrant field. Chaplin, who won her first race of the year at UNC Pembroke, is a perfect 141-0 against Southeast Region runners in her first two races of the year.
