LAWRENCEVILLE, VA—St. Paul’s College took advantage of a cold shooting second half by visiting St. Andrews to pull out a 77-62 non-conference victory in men’s basketball action on Wednesday night at the Taylor-Whitehead Gym.

The Knights, who just completed a 0-4 road trip, will look forward to returning home on Saturday. SAPC is currently riding a seven-game win streak in Harris Court. The Tigers improved to 11-15 while the Knights are 12-14.

St. Paul’s connected on 17-of-32 (53.1%) of its field goals and held a 22-13 rebounding advantage in the first half. However, St. Andrews scored 10 points on nine Tiger turnovers to only trail by three, 37-34, at halftime.

The Knights attempted comeback out of the locker room was halted by ice cold shooting. St. Andrews went 9-for-32 (28.1%) from the floor in the second frame including 1-for-12 (8.3%) from behind the arc.

The Tigers, who led for all 20 minutes of the second stanza, slowly pulled away and took its largest lead of the game at the end, 77-62. St. Paul’s shot 54.1-percent on the night and won the battle of the boards, 44-30.

Sophomore Taiwon Grooms (Landover, MD) led the Knights with 19 points. Freshman Keith Josey (Suffolk, VA) and sophomore Joseph Gripper (Charlotte, NC) both bucketed eight points and grabbed five rebounds apiece.

Shahumaad Jones scored a game-high 21 points for the Tigers. Jack Browne recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Maurice Boatwright and Tristan Rankin had 12 and 10 points, respectively.

St. Andrews concludes regular season play on Saturday, when they host CVAC rival Queens University of Charlotte on ‘Senior Day’. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
