Trojans Traipse Past KnightsJanuary 18, 2012
Chris Sumski (Charlotte, NC) and Ross Williams (Washington, D.C.) each scored double figures with 15 and 17 respectively to help cut the Trojans’ lead. Sumski went five for five from long distance, allowing all of his points to come from behind the arc as the Knights slowly worked their way closer to the Trojans. Mike Dunkins (Candor, NC) put up nine points for SAU and got his hands on five rebounds, second to Streater. Derek Staton, a Mount Olive senior, put in a lay-up to give the Trojans their biggest lead of the game, 55-37, four minutes into the second half; but the Knights never gave up, using a 20-8 run to close the gap to 63-57 with 10:07 remaining. Despite their late efforts, the Knights could not find enough opportunities to put the ball in the hoop as they finished 14 points shy of the Trojans. St. Andrews men’s basketball will use a week off of competition to prepare for next Wednesday’s home game against Barton College. The men will take the court for a 7:30 PM tip-off on January 25. Prior to the start of the game, the St. Andrews University Athletic Department will have a special time of remembrance to honor 1st Lt. Ashley White Stumpf, who lost her life in service to her country in October 2011. The Scotland High School JROTC team will present the Colors in honor of 1st Lt. Stumpf during the National Anthem at Wednesday night’s game. -GO KNIGHTS-
