SAU Men's Basketball Goes 1-1 at Francis Marion ClassicNovember 27, 2011 GM 1 Box Score; GM 2 Box Score St. Andrews 78, Bluefield 76 Senior Ross Williams (Washington, DC) led the Knights’ offense with 19 points as they took on the Rams on Saturday. In addition to Williams’ point contributions, three other Knights posted points in the double digits: Antonio Moffitt (Raleigh, NC)-17, Aaron Christian (New Bedford, MA)-13, and Michael Dunkins (Candor, NC)-10. SAU went 12-17 at the free-throw line on Saturday, while Ryan Streater (Charlotte, NC) and Moffitt each shot 100% at the line. Christian picked up six points from behind the arc as he shot 66.67% from long range, with Chris Sumski (Charlotte, NC), Moffitt, and Williams also knocking down some three pointers for St. Andrews. The Knights out hustled the Rams under the hoop as they grabbed 40 rebounds, compared to the Rams’ 27. Christian led the Knights in rebounds as he took nine, leaving him one rebound short of earning a double-double. St. Andrews 88, Voorhees 96 The men of the Royal Blue and White showed their strength under the basket again on Sunday as they took 44 total rebounds, 27 of which were defensive. Streater led the way by earning nine, followed by Demetrius Monroe (High Point, NC) who snagged seven. Building a quick offense, the Knights worked hard to make sharp passes that led to shots. Williams assisted his teammates’ shots seven times against the Tigers, while the team threw 14 assists all together. Again using a powerful offense to drive to the basket, several Knights worked hard to take the ball down low and draw a foul. Joe Houpe (Goldsboro, NC) and Moffitt showed their skills at the line as they shot 100% at the foul line; giving Moffitt a perfect free-throw percentage over the weekend. The Knights will host Barber-Scotia College on Wednesday, November 30 at 7:00 PM. Florence, SC- The Knights (2-5 Overall) made the journey to Francis Marion University this weekend to participate in the 2011 Comfort Suites Classic hosted by FMU. Over the weekend, SAU men’s basketball faced the Rams of Bluefield College and the Tigers of Voorhees College. The Knights started the Classic with a close victory over Bluefield College, 78-76, and finished their weekend play with a 96-88 loss to Voorhees College.
Putting up 20 points against the Tigers on Sunday, Williams once again led the Knights offensively. Moffitt trailed close behind as he found the hoop seven times from the field, on his way to a final total of 19 points. Also earning double digit points, Dunkins posted 14 while Streater and Sumski each pulled down 11.
