Men's Basketball Falls to Bishops at Roger Taylor Invitational

Rocky Mount, NC- SAU seniors Aaron Christian (New Bedford, MA) and Ross Williams (Washington, DC) worked hard for the Knights this weekend and their efforts were recognized after this afternoon’s game. Christian and Williams were each awarded All-Tournament honors for their play over the course of the two-day event. In today’s game against NC Wesleyan College, the two earned 31 combined points for the Knights—Christian-16, Williams-15. However, the Knights could not gain a lead in today’s close game of men’s basketball as they lost 82-77 to the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College.

St. Andrews (1-4 Overall, 0-0 Conference) played a tight game this afternoon as the largest deficit they saw was 15; which lasted for less than thirty seconds as Michael Dunkins (Candor, NC) posted a three-pointer, followed by an eight point run by the Knights to make it a four point game. Dunkins led the St. Andrews offensive in today’s game as he put up 19 of the Knights’ points. He not only found the goal four times from behind the arc, but also made three from the field and one from the foul line.

Williams threw five assists and earned two steals in addition to the points he earned. Christian also set his teammates up for success by passing four assists and grabbing two steals. The Knights picked up 10 total steals, three more than NC Wesleyan.

While both teams went 40.0% from long distance, the Bishops shot an impressive 85.7% from the line in today’s matchup, where there Knights were only able to pull 9-14 (64.3%).

Antonio Moffitt (Raleigh, NC) and Jason Murray (Syracuse, NY), both seniors at St. Andrews, each grabbed nine rebounds, the team high for the game; while the squad earned a total of 39 rebounds, 17 offensive and 22 defensive.

SAU Men’s Basketball will travel to Francis Marion University next weekend to play in yet another two-day event. For their first game at the Francis Marion Classic, the Knights will take on Bluefield College on Saturday, November 26 at 2:00 PM.
