Rocky Mount, NC- The St. Andrews men’s basketball team made its way to NC Wesleyan College this morning to participate in the Roger Taylor Invitational. Seniors Chris Sumski (Charlotte, NC) and Ross Williams (Washington, DC) pushed the Knights to their first victory of the 2011-12 season this afternoon as they defeated Maryland Bible College by 14 points with a final score of 89-75.

Sumski set a fast pace for the SAU (1-3 Overall, 0-0 Conference) offense as he sunk eight of his nine three-point attempts on his way to an overall total of 27 points, nearly 1/3 of the Knights’ final score. In addition to going 9-11 (field goals made-field goals attempted) from the field, Sumski also earned four rebounds and three assists for St. Andrews this afternoon, while SAU snagged an impressive total of 57 rebounds, 38 of which were defensive.

Williams led the pack as he grabbed a career high of 18 rebounds on his way to a double-double, as he posted 16 points for St. Andrews as well. Williams followed the Knights’ shots to the basket and picked up 10 offensive rebounds, while boxing out under Maryland Bible College’s goal as well, earning his other eight rebounds. Adding to his impressive play, Williams also took a team high of four steals against MBC.

Antonio Moffitt (Raleigh, NC) trailed Williams’ point total by one as he added 15 for the Knights, with teammate Aaron Christian (New Bedford, MA) putting up 10 points and dishing out six assists.

The Knights shot 64.0% from the line, with Jordan Baber (Upper Marlboro, MD) shooting 100% at the foul line by making all six of his free-throws. Joe Houpe (Goldsboro, NC) and Moffitt also performed perfectly from the line as they went 1-1 and 2-2 respectively.

St. Andrews will continue play at the Invitational tomorrow, November 20. The Knights will play at 2:00 PM as the take on the Battling Bishops of NC Wesleyan College.
