In their own words...
"As a first generation Latin American, it was different coming here, but I soon realized that I could just be me. St. Andrews is a school for people who like small classes and a close community."

Laurinburg, NC- Richie Schueler, head men’s basketball coach at St. Andrews Presbyterian College, has announced the addition of Joe Houpe to the Knights’ roster this season.

Coach Schueler says that “Joe is a strong, physical player who could be very good for us in the post.  He puts forth a lot of effort in rebounding the basketball, which is an area that we need to improve in.  He is undersized but, in many ways, reminds us of Marvin Jackson (Class of 2011) in the way that he plays.  I’m excited about the abilities that he brings to our team.”

Joe Houpe is a 6’4, 225 lb. post player who has signed to play for the SAPC Knights after having played two successful seasons at Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, NC.

His first year at Sandhills CC (2009-2010), Houpe averaged 15 points per game and 8 rebounds per game. These impressive stats led him to spots on the 1 st Team All-Region X and the Region X All-Freshman Team. During his second season (2010-2011), Houpe helped Sandhills earn the title of Region X Conference Champs. His average of 11 points per game and 6 rebounds per game allowed him to be voted best defensive player by his team, grab a spot on the 2 nd Team All-Region, and finish his career at Sandhills CC as #8 in NJCAA Division III Poll.

The Goldsboro, NC, native graduated from Millbrook High School (Raleigh, NC) in 2009. As a Millbrook Wildcat, Houpe helped lead his team to CAP 7 conference regular season and tournament titles. Along with his team victories, Houpe also captured many personal achievements during his high school career: offensive player of the year (as voted by his team), runner up player of the year, and 1 st Team All-Conference.
