GAFFNEY, S.C.—St. Andrews Presbyterian College sophomore shooting guard Colby Poe (Bennettsville, S.C.) scored a season-high 20 points in a 72-61 Conference Carolinas men’s basketball loss at Limestone College on Saturday night in the Timken Center.

The Saints received a game-high 21 points from Marques Williams and 19 points from Andrae Franklin to improve to 7-15 overall and 4-12 in the conference. Senior Bradley Hippolyte (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 10 points for the Knights, who fell to 5-19 and 4-13.

Limestone took control of the game by holding St. Andrews to just 20 points in the first half. The Knights were 9-for-26 (34.6%) from the field in the first 20 minutes while the Saints were 12-for-24 (50.0%) to take a 31-20 halftime lead. The two teams played the second half even with Limestone holding on for the 11-point victory.

The Saints finished the game shooting at 51.1-percent accuracy while the Knights finished 41.3%.

Franklin helped Limestone win the battle of the boards, 37-33, with a game-high 11 rebounds for a double-double. Freshman Zack Garst (Huntersville, N.C.), who had seven-points for the Knights, pulled down a team-high seven rebounds for SAPC.

Limestone never trailed in the game and held a 19-point lead early in the second half but the Knights slowly cut into the deficit with a 30-18 run. A Poe lay-up capped the run to pull St. Andrews within seven, 63-56, with 80 seconds left. However, with the clock against the Knights, St. Andrews was forced to foul and the Saints made nine free throws in the final 70 seconds to secure the victory.

Junior Joseph Gripper (Charlotte, N.C.) provided eight points and seven rebounds for St. Andrews while seniors Benny Zacharias (Raeford, N.C.) and Jeff Worley (Charlotte, N.C.) netted six points apiece. Worley also had a team-high three assists.

St. Andrews travels to Hartsville, S.C. for a Conference Carolinas showdown with rival Coker College on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
