LAURINBURG, N.C.—Senior Richard Stone (Williamsburg, Va.) is making free throws at a 92.0-percent accuracy to rank second in NCAA Division II in free-throw percentage helping the St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s basketball team rank No. 19 nationally in free throws made at 75.4%.
As of Monday’s NCAA Division II statistics report, Stone has made 69 of his 75 attempts from the charity stripe in 20 games for the sizzling 92.0% precision. Junior Taiwon Grooms (Landover, Md.) is also ranked nationally in the top-50 in free-throw percentage converting on 100-of-119 attempts. Grooms 84.0% exactness has him ranked No. 46 overall.
Also shooting over 80% on the freebees is freshman Justin Brauda (Monroe, N.C.) and junior Marcus Hoke (Charlotte, N.C.) at 82.1% and 80.0%, respectively. To be ranked nationally you must average a minimum of 2.5 made free throws per game.
The Knights have made 312 free throws out of 414 attempted (75.4%) to be ranked 19th out of 293 colleges’ that sponsor NCAA D-II basketball.
St. Andrews will host CVAC foe Mount Olive College on Thursday evening in a men’s and women’s doubleheader. The women’s tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with the men following at approximately 7:30 p.m.
