WILSON, N.C.—Five different Knights scored in double-digits but Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference leading Barton College held off St. Andrews Presbyterian College, 99-88, in men’s basketball action on Thursday night.

Freshman forward L.J. Dunn (Raleigh, NC) scored 12 points and yanked a game-high 11 rebounds to help power Barton to the 11-point victory.

The victory vaulted the Bulldogs, ranked No. 3 in the NCAA D-II East Region, to 14-5 overall and 12-1 in the CVAC. Barton, the defending CVAC regular season, tournament and East Region champ, has won nine of its last 10. St. Andrews, which had won six of its last seven league games, slipped to 9-11 overall and 6-7 in the CVAC.

Sophomore shooting guard Bobby Buffaloe (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) cashed in 24 points for the Bulldogs, followed by 22 from senior point guard Anthony Atkinson (Wilson, N.C.), who was 14-of-15 from the foul line and had nine assists. Senior post player Mark Friscone (N. Royalton, Ohio) carried the Bulldogs to a 49-44 halftime lead with all 12 of his points.

Both teams shot better than 50 percent from the floor and Barton won the rebounding battle 39-31.

For SAPC, senior Richard Stone (Williamsburg, Va.) swished 21, junior Taiwon Grooms (Landover, Md.) 20, freshman Justin Brauda (Monroe, N.C.) 17, sophomore Keith Josey (Suffolk, Va.) 12 and junior Bradley Hippolyte (Brooklyn, N.Y.) 10. Brauda’s 17 points was his second highest point total of his rookie season after going an impressive 7-of-9 from the field.

Josey posted his fourth double-double of the season by grabbing 10 boards while Brauda dished out a team-high three assists. The Knights shot 57% from behind the arc including a trio of treys from Stone.

St. Andrews will try and avenge a close 60-58 loss on January 8th when they visit No. 7 regionally ranked Limestone College (Gaffney, S.C.) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
