Knight's men's hoops runs past Anderson

LAURINBURG, N.C.—Junior forward Marcus Hoke (Charlotte, N.C.) scored a season-high 19 points including a game-high four 3-pointers to lead the St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s basketball team to 79-49 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference victory over Anderson University on Saturday afternoon in Harris Court.

The Knights, winners of five of their last six games, improved to 8-10 overall and 5-6 in the CVAC. The Trojans have lost seven straight contests to fall to 2-15 overall and 2-9 in the league.

St. Andrews started the game hot with 19-4 run in the first five minutes that included four buckets from behind the arc. The Knights continued to extend their advantage throughout the first 20 minutes by shooting 53.8% (14-for-26) from the field and an impressive 8-for-9 (88.9%) from downtown to pull out to a 47-27 lead at halftime.

SAPC maintained a 20-plus point advantage throughout the whole second half and coasted to the 30-point victory. The Knights largest lead of the game was 35 points, 78-43, with 1:51 left.

St. Andrews held a 42-38 edge on the boards including a team-high six boards by junior Bradley Hippolyte (Brooklyn, N.Y.).

Senior Richard Stone (Williamsburg, Va.) led the Knights offensively with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Junior Taiwon Grooms (Landover, Md.) followed with 11 points. Grooms and freshman Justin Brauda (Monroe, N.C.) each hit a pair of three-pointers.

Hoke, Brauda, and sophomore Charles Phillips (Decatur, Ga.) all dished out a game-high four assists for St. Andrews. Sophomore Keith Josey (Suffolk, Va.) swatted away a game-high three blocks. Junior Benny Zacharias (Raeford, N.C.) chipped in with six points, four boards, and two blocks.

Junior Kris Fudzinskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) led the Trojans with a double-double including 11 points and a game-high 11 boards. Senior J.R. Howell (Clemson, S.C.) added eight points.

The Knights will try and avenge Thursday’s road loss at CVAC foe Queens University of Charlotte, when they host the Royals on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
