Pembroke, N.C. – The Knights (8-36) Traveled down to Pembroke Monday to square off in a one game match up with their rival foes the UNC Pembroke Braves (38-10). Sadly it was a one sided affair for St. Andrews as Pembroke maximized their home field advantage enroot to a 20-5 win.
The Braves opened the game up with a run in the first to jump out to an early lead 1-0. SAPC then answered back with a run of their own as R.J. Blasi (Swansboro, NC) laced a double down the right field line bringing in John Allen Renn (Wake Forest, NC) for the score, tying up the game 1-1. The Braves then took complete control by adding three runs in the 3 rd, and six runs in the 4 th extending their lead to a 10-1 advantage. The Knights would try to rally back in the 5 th; however, as they compiled three runs off of four hits bringing the deficit closer with a score of 10-4. In true Pembroke fashion the Braves countered by scoring two more runs again in the 5 th and 6 th innings making the score now 14-4, advantage Braves. As the 7 th inning began the Knights threw their final blow at UNCP as Michael Cantwell (Burlington, NJ) found himself scoring, but this proved to be the final run for St. Andrews, as Pembroke went on to add six more runs themselves to push the lead to the eventual final of 20-5 in favor of UNC Pembroke.
Standing out for St. Andrews was R.J. Blasi who went 2-5 with an RBI, Michael Cantwell who went 3-5 with an RBI, and T.J. Werner (Burlington, IA) who went a perfect 4-4 while collecting an RBI as well.
