Laurinburg, N.C. - On Friday afternoon the Knights (8-33) welcomed in Lander University (26-19) for a single game home stand. It was a slow paced game back and forth while neither team had luck putting runs on the scoreboard.
The game was a see-saw match up with both teams showing solid play defensively. The first hits of the game did not come until the bottom of the 2nd when Dalton Steed (Indian Trail, NC) singled to right field and Ethan Powel, (Greenville, NC) then singled to center. The Knights seemed to get their bats going, but Lander stayed grounded and got out of the inning without giving up a run. Fast forward to the top of the 4th, this is when Lander started swinging their bats. They tallied up a double; which, then led to a stolen base and a score due to a wild pitch putting Lander on top 1-0.
During the 5th inning St. Andrews again tried to put a run together as Jason Murray (Syracuse, NY) and Ethan Powell both singled trying to put some hits together to add some runs for the Knights. Lander; however, again had other plans as they struck out the next batter then forced a double play retiring the inning without giving up a run. Lander had just took St. Andrews final blow in stride and went back up to the plate in the top of the 6 th and scored on a sacrifice fly extending their lead to the eventual final score 2-0. Standing out for the Knights was Ethan Powell who went a perfect two for two from the plate.
