Florence, S.C. – The Knights (8-29) traveled south Tuesday to take on the very talented Patriots of Francis Marion University (27-9) for a one game stop. St. Andrews struck first, but could not fend off the Patriots after they got rolling eventually loosing the game 14-2.
The Knights tried to set the tempo in the top of the second when they strung together a couple hits including single up the middle by Colin Armstrong (Aurora, CO) which brought in a run giving the Knights an early lead with the score being 1-0. The Patriots then went crazy in the bottom of the second inning where they went on to score nine runs. That kind of play for Francis Marion continued in the 3 rd, 4 th, and 6 th as they continued to score extending their lead to 14-1. The Knights had one more chance in the top of the seventh, but could only manage to score one run when T.J. Werner (Burlington, NC) singled into left field and bringing home Colin Armstrong (Aurora, CO) for the score. That ;however, would be the last for the Knights as the Patriot defense forced the finals outs leaving St. Andrews with a 14-2 loss.
Standing out for the Knights were Junior Jake Anderson (Boulder, CO) who went 3-4 and Senior Michael Cantwell (Burlington, NJ) who went 2-4 behind the plate. St. Andrews takes the field again on Saturday as they welcome in Barton College for a three game weekend series with the first game starting at 12 p.m.
