Murfreesboro, N.C. - The Knights (8-22, 2-10) took their show on the road Tuesday as they squared off with Chowan University (12-13) in a doubleheader showdown on the diamond. St. Andrews proved to hold their own against the fellow North Carolina school by splitting the series and taking game one.

Game one the Knights struck early as Freshman Sebastian Ray (Plant City, FL) doubled to left center bringing in Junior T.J. Werner (Burlington, NC) for the game’s first score. After solid defense and pitching, St. Andrews came out in the second inning and went wild behind the plate compiling four runs off of four hits. In that stretch both John Allen Renn (Wake Forest, NC) and Sebastian Ray both doubled bringing in two RBIs each, making the score 5-0 in favor of the Knights. Chowan answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second but St. Andrews continued to stay solid. The Knights scored a run in the third, fourth, and fifth as Chowan only managed to put up two more of their own leading to a final score of 8-4 with the Knights bringing home the win. For St. Andrews Sebastian Ray led the way going 3-4 with three RBIs while Sophomore Andrew Pelfrey (Mount Airy, NC) picked up his second win on the season.

Game two Chowan seemed to click offensively and came out of the gate running scoring five runs in the first inning. St. Andrews however could not put anything together behind the plate early as Chowan continued their barrage. After three innings the Knights found themselves down facing an 8-0 deficit but kept fighting. The fourth inning bode well for St. Andrews as they were able to score three runs due to an Andrew Pelfrey (Mount Airy, NC) single, and Senior Jason Murray (Syracuse, NY) who brought in two runs as well. The Knights however, would not score again as Chowan trickled in some more runs ending the game with a St. Andrews loss by the score of 12-3. The Knights take the field again when they travel to Due West, S.C. to face the Flying Fleet of Erskine College in a Conference Carolinas showdown. The first game is scheduled for Friday starting at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday the doubleheader begins at 11 a.m.
