Laurinburg, N.C. – The Knights (7-21, 2-10) took to the diamond this weekend playing host to visiting Limestone College (19-10, 5-8) of our very own Conference Carolinas to battle it out in a three game series. This proved to be a tough series for St. Andrews as they came away with only one win.

Game one everything seem to go the Saints way as they picked the Knights apart with huge scoring outbursts in the second and fifth innings, while St. Andrews had trouble behind the plate. Limestone trickled in a few more runs in the seventh and eighth to add to their lead eventually ending the game in a 9-0 loss for the Knights.

Game two proved to be a different story all together as St. Andrews came out and landed the first shot when T.J Werner (Burlington, N.C.) doubled down the left field line and brought Senior Michael Cantwell (Burlington, N.J.) in for the score putting the Knights up 1-0. The Saints of Limestone had a solid counter move as they had a huge second inning putting up three runs off of four hits making the score 3-1. Then like a heavyweight bout, St. Andrews came back with runs of their own, tallying three runs in the third inning with RBIs from T.J. Werner (Burlington, NC), Freshman Sebastian Ray (Plant City, FL), and Sophomore Dalton Steed (Indian Trail, N.C.) making the score 4-3 in favor of the Knights. In the fifth Limestone managed to tie up the ballgame, but the Knights struck again in that same inning when T.J. Werner (Burlington, NC) scored once more off of a Sebastian Ray sacrifice fly, putting St. Andrews in the lead which they held on to and secured the 5-4 win. For the Knights T.J. Werner was a perfect 3-3, all three hits being doubles, for the day while Michael Cantwell went 3-4. Ryan Pierce also picked up his third win of the season from the mound.

Game three rubber match proved to be a tough one for St. Andrews as the Saints jumped out and put up two runs in the first. The Knights struck back in the second as Sebastian Ray scored making the game 2-1. Limestone then went on a tangent scoring once in the third and three more times in the fourth making it a 6-1 score with the Knights facing an insurmountable deficit. The Knights did not give up though as they continued to fight, scoring twice in the fifth thanks to a Sebastian Ray single, and once more in the eighth off a Michael Cantwell sacrifice fly bringing them within two. The Saints then clamped down and halted St. Andrews offense ending the game with a final score of 6-4 in favor of Limestone. For the Knights Michael Cantwell managed to go 3-3 and Sebastian Ray went 2-5 driving in two runs. St. Andrews takes to the field again as they play a doubleheader at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, NC with games starting at 1 p.m.
