LAURINBURG, N.C.—Senior Michael Eastwood (Grantsboro, N.C.) and B.J. Horne (Hamlet, N.C.) each had four hits on Wednesday afternoon including one home run apiece as St. Andrews Presbyterian College split a non-conference doubleheader with Chowan University. The Hawks (18-11 Overall) won the opener 10-6 but the Knights (12-24) bounced back with a 13-4 victory in the finale.

The Knights exploded for seven runs in the third inning of the nightcap and sophomore reliever Jeremy Fisher (Cantonville, Md.) tossed 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn his first win at St. Andrews. Fisher (1-0) registered three strikeouts while scattering three hits in the victory.

Eastwood put the Knights on the scoreboard early with a solo home run in the first inning. Sophomore Charles Weber (Concord, N.C.) added an RBI-double in the first frame.

Chowan scored the next four runs to take a 4-2 advantage before St. Andrews rallied with its seven-run third that included seven base hits. Junior Kyle Norris (Laurel Hill, N.C.) was 2-for-2 in the inning including a two-run double while senior Sam Williams (Rockingham, N.C.) had a double and a walk in the stanza. Eastwood, Horne, sophomore Vince Giunta (Sewell, N.J.), and senior Eric Stone (Laurinburg, N.C.) all drove in one run during the surge.

Horne added his second home run in as many days in the fourth inning. Horne, who was 3-for-3 with three extra base hits in game two, drilled his team-high fourth home run of the season to increase the Knights lead to 11-4.

A Giunta RBI-double in the sixth and an Eastwood RBI-single in the seventh completed the Knights scoring as SAPC steamrolled to the nine-run victory.

Horne, Eastwood, and Norris led the Knights 15-hit attack with three hits apiece. Eastwood and Horne each drove in three while Horne crossed home plate three times.

In the first game, Chowan built an 8-0 lead at the midway point and held on for a 10-6 win. The Hawks hit three home runs en route to the four-run victory.

St. Andrews cut the deficit in half at 8-4 with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Horne had an RBI-single, freshman Kyle Cummings (Wake Forest, N.C.) added an RBI-groundout, and junior J.T. Maquire (Jarrettsville, Md.) capped the rally with a two-run double.

Weber completed the Knights scoring with a two-run single in the seventh inning. Weber was the only St. Andrews batter with two hits in the opener as the Knights left eight runners on base.

St. Andrews visits Belmont Abbey College for a three-game Conference Carolinas series this weekend. Saturday’s doubleheader starts at 12 Noon while Sunday’s series finale is slated for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
