FLORENCE, S.C.—Leadoff batter Greg Phelps stole three bases and scored four times while five different Francis Marion University batters had two hits each as the 24th-ranked Patriots defeated St. Andrews Presbyterian College 18-5, Saturday evening in the eighth game of the third-annual Swamp Fox Baseball Challenge.

The four-day event will conclude on Sunday with three games on FMU’s Cormell Field: Anderson facing Lander at noon, Brevard playing FMU at 3 p.m., and UNCP playing St. Andrews at 6 p.m.

With its fourth straight victory, FMU ups its record to 6-1 while St. Andrews dips to 1-4.

In addition to his productive day on the base paths, Phelps had an RBI single in a five-run second inning. Justin Greene, Jared Barkdoll, Camron Asbill, Keon Graves, and Ryan Hewitt all rapped out two hits for the Patriots with Greene, Barkdoll, and Tyler Lehman all collecting two RBIs.

Altogether, Francis Marion had 18 hits and took advantage of four St. Andrews errors and eight bases-on-balls by the Knight pitching staff.

Freshman righty Phillip Mozingo, a product of West Florence High School, was the first of four FMU hurlers and he earned the win to even his mark at 1-1. St. Andrews’ starter Caleb Johnson (0-2) absorbed the loss.

Sophomore left fielder Alex Ridout (Wake Forest, N.C.) was the lone St. Andrews player with two hits, and he also drove in one run. Senior Michael Eastwood (Grantsboro, N.C.) and freshman R.J. Blasi (Hubert, N.C.) each added an RBI while sophomore Charles Weber (Concord, N.C.) went 1-for-2 with three walks. Senior Sam Williams (Rockingham, N.C.) had the Knights only extra-base hit in the form of a double.
