PEMBROKE, N.C.—Junior shortstop Eric Stone (Laurinburg, N.C.) had a team-high three hits for visiting St. Andrews Presbyterian College but non-conference University of North Carolina at Pembroke took the NCAA Division II baseball victory, 11-0, on Thursday evening at Sammy Cox Field.

Junior Kevin Dietrich led the Braves (24-19 Overall) by driving in six runs on a perfect 5-for-5 performance from the plate. Jason Morales, Josh Bentley, and Chris Beck all had two hits for UNCP as the Braves racked up 11 runs on 15 hits and nine walks. Morales and Jay Bowman both scored three times for Pembroke.

The Knights (13-33 Overall) had several chances to score including stranding a pair of runners on base in both the second and fifth innings. Freshman Adam Treywick (Marshville, N.C.) and senior Ritchie Priest (Elizabethtown, N.C.) had back-to-back walks in the second but the Braves escaped the threat on a groundout.

St. Andrews best chance may have been in the fifth when senior Adam Stemple (Holly Spring, Ga.) reached on a leadoff error and then advanced to second on a freshman Alex Ridout (Wake Forest, N.C.) walk. After a fielder’s choice out, Stone loaded the bases with a seeing-eyed single through the left side of the infield.

However, Braves starter Justin Yow got out of the jam by educing a double play to end the inning. Yow (5-1) earned the victory after going seven innings. Brian Willis and Jordan Carter each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to compete the shutout for UNC-Pembroke.

Sophomore starter John Cratch (Angier, N.C.) was tagged with the loss for the Knights after allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out a game-high three batters.

St. Andrews will entertain Limestone College in a three-game weekend series. The CVAC series will begin with a Saturday doubleheader that begins at Noon while Sunday’s finale is slated for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
