MISENHEIMER, N.C.—Junior Eric Stone (Laurinburg, N.C.) led St. Andrews Presbyterian College with five of the Knights 15 hits on the weekend, but host Pfeiffer University hit safely 42 times en route to the three-game CVAC sweep. The Falcons took Friday’s doubleheader 24-4 and 4-0 and then complete the series sweep with a 10-2 on Saturday.
The Knights, who fell to 13-32 on the season and 3-18 in the CVAC, will visit non-conference Catawba College on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
Game 1: Pfeiffer 24, St. Andrews 4
Stone doubled in two runs in the top of the first to give the visitors their only lead of the series, 2-0, in the opener.
Pfeiffer got two in the bottom of the first on a Ryan Harju lead-off home run and a Hayes Hinson RBI groundout. The Falcons blew the game open with five runs in the bottom of the second highlighted by a Hinson two-run home run. Zack Pou doubled in two in the fourth as Pfeiffer scored four more to increase their lead to 11-4. Hinson hit another two-run home run in the fifth as the Falcons scored five more times. Pfeiffer scored seven more runs over the next three innings to win by 20.
The Knights final two runs came in the fourth inning as senior Ritchie Priest (Elizabethtown, N.C.) scored on a wild pitch and sophomore Ivan Rodriguez (New York, N.Y.) drove in the fourth run on an RBI-groundout.
Andrew Oliver picked up the win for Pfeiffer pitching eight strong innings.
Game 2: Pfeiffer 4, St. Andrews 0
Jonathan McDaniel pitched a three-hit complete game shutout to lead Pfeiffer in game two. All three were infield hits and McDaniel walked no one. McDaniel retired the last thirteen batters he faced as the Falcons won 4-0.
Bryan Braxton drove in Ryan Harju in the first to give Pfeiffer the early 1-0 lead. Emmanuel Turner drove in one in the fourth as Pfeiffer scored twice to build their lead to 3-0. Kyle Pugh drove in Hayes Hinson in the fifth to give the Falcons their fourth run.
The speedy Rodriguez had two of the Knights three hits from the leadoff batting position.
Game 3: Pfeiffer 10, St. Andrews 2
Pfeiffer grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first when Zack Pou singled in Ryan Harju and Bryan Braxton. Ryan Brown scored in the second to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead. Pfeiffer built their lead to 6-0 after four innings with Pou hitting a solo home run in the fourth.
This was all Nick Fogleman needed as he got the win pitching seven strong innings giving up only an unearned run while striking out six.
Pfeiffer added four more runs late and the Knights picked up single runs in the fifth and eighth. Priest highlighted St. Andrews scoring with an RBI-single in the eighth. Stone had two of the Knights four hits in the finale.
