MURFEESBORO, N.C.—Freshman Charles Weber (Concord, N.C.) ripped five of the Knights 19 hits on the day as St. Andrews Presbyterian College split a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Chowan University winning the first game 10-1 but dropping the second contest 8-1 on Tuesday.

The Knights maintain a 13-25 record while the Hawks are even at 17-17.

Junior Sam Williams (Rockingham, N.C.) plated St. Andrews first run in the opener with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Freshmen Zach Dunn (Harrisburg, N.C.) and Jonathan Ramkissoon (Dallas, N.C.) extended the Knights lead to 3-0 with run-producing singles in the second. A Weber single in the third plated junior Michael Eastwood (Grantsboro, N.C.) for St. Andrews fourth run.

The Knights tacked on two more runs in the fifth as the lead grew to 6-0. Senior Ritchie Priest (Elizabethtown, N.C.) supplied one of the scores with a single that plated Weber. St. Andrews pulled away with a four-run seventh that including runs batted in by Williams, Eastwood, Weber, and Priest.

A fielding error in the bottom of the seventh cost SAPC the shutout bid as Chowan scored an unearned run.

Freshman starter Mark Dlugokienski (Naples, Fla.) leveled his record at 2-2 after allowing just one hit and two walks in four innings while hurling four strikeouts. Senior Mike Mianulli (Ellicott City, Md.) was credited with a three-inning save after fanning two batters and just giving up one unearned run on two hits.

Weber finished the first game going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Chowan bounced back in the nightcap scoring eight runs on 14 hits.

The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but Eastwood cut the deficit in half with the Knights only run of the game drilling a home run in the second. Eastwood’s solo blast to lead off the inning was his third of the season.

After Chowan scored one more run in home half of the second, the Hawks pulled away with a five-run outburst in the fourth including a two-run blast by Nate Mitchell.

The Knights had several offensive opportunities but left eight runners on base. Brandon Hamlett pitched the complete-game victory for the Hawks. Junior Josh Porter (Laurinburg, N.C.) was tagged with the loss from the starters roll for SAPC.

St. Andrews will host CVAC rival Coker College in a three-game weekend series. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for a 12 Noon start while first pitch to Sunday’s finale is slated for 1:00 p.m.
