LAURINBURG, N.C.—Junior third baseman Josh Day (Bessemer, N.C.) hit his first home run for St. Andrews Presbyterian College, but No. 22 nationally ranked Francis Marion University went on to take a 10-1 NCAA Division II baseball victory on Wednesday at Clark Field.

The Patriots, who boast an 11-4 overall record, extended their win streak to six games while handing the Knights (7-8 Overall) their first loss at home (6-1).

Day gave St. Andrews an early 1-0 advantage drilling his first home run as a Knight this season after transferring in from Rockingham Community College. Day’s solo blast was to right field in the bottom of the second. Day was the only SAPC player with two hits in the contest.

FMU took the lead for good with three runs in the third and extended the lead to 9-1 with a six-run burst in the fourth. The Patriots tacked on one final run in the sixth to pull away to the nine-run victory.

Six Knights hurlers combined for nine strikeouts while sophomore starter John Cratch (Angier, N.C.) took his first loss of the season (1-1). Francis Marion starter Cole McKellar improved to 2-0 on the season.

St. Andrews will try and snap a four-game skid on Thursday when they host local rival UNC-Pembroke on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. (a rescheduled non-conference game from February 1).
